College students are at unique time of their lives. They are between high school, and launching into adulthood. It is during this time that they are most open to the spiritual and academic formation that is at the center of the efforts in education at Colorado Christian University. These efforts not only focus on academic learning and knowledge acquisition, but also in their spiritual formation. Traditional spiritual formation seems to mostly focus on propositional truth and it’s exposition, but less emphasis on relational truth embodied in the ancient spiritual practices such as silence and solitude. Rather than being an assignment at a typical spiritual retreat, silence and solitude needs to be a central component of a retreat that allows for God to be the teacher rather than a gifted human teacher.
